stitching sunday- A finish!

I know it has taken a week but I got around to stitching the binding on yesterday. The trouble with finishing off a project that was started a while ago is that invariably you have no matching fabric left but I managed to save enough when I trimmed the backing fabric.

I quite like the back on this piece. I would like to be able to take a piece of cloth and stitch paint like this freely.

As this shot shows, it is not exactly hanging flat. This is something that would have really bothered me in the past, but I am beginning to to feel differently about such things.

Looking at the work of artists like Rebecca Ringquist and Micheala Gyetvai has helped. It is cloth after all.

Anyhow!!! It is finished!
It was fun to do. The machine stitching was fast and furious and the hand stitching was very relaxing and therapeutic. It has prompted me to attempt to finish off other pieces that may be lurking!

  1. It is beautiful with two amazing sides - either of which look great hung to display.

  3. I agree, I love it, especially the seeding stitch and it is so vibrantly colourful. I picked up a tip about encouraging things to hang straight and I stitch a length of curtain weights inside the bottom binding strip (you get it on a roll). Can't remember who mentioned it but I use it on hangings that I put into FOQ. Not worrying about it is cool too :-)

  4. I really like this as well.......and the movement in its fall suggest a breeze to me...........flat to the wall can be viewed as too precise and 2d?
smashing mix of stitching : )

  7. This would be a great piece to hang somewhere that it can be seen from both sides. Both front and back are so lovely!

  11. Brilliant !!! Your handstitching looks soooo good - have to try it ;-)) And if you ever present this lovely work in an exhibition, it would be great if it would hang in open space - so people could admire both sides. Because they are worth it !!
