This is where it all started for me but times change and now all of my blogging takes place over at my
Quilt Routes blog and I hope you will join me over there.

working wednesday

I am a bit bogged down with the work and in need of a bit of fun.
With that aim in mind I have just enrolled in an on line e-class The Remains of the Day by Mary Ann Moss over at Dispatch from LA.

The class is all about making recycled art journals. I have had a go at making one myself before, as you can see above. (details are here and here) but I always struggle a bit with putting everything together and I wanted some help with "letting go" a bit.
I have only dipped my toe in so far but I am already enjoying what I have seen. It will help me to put together the cover that I shared in my last post, and allow me to use up all the STUFF I have around here.
Expect to be seeing a few more art journals around here!

Serge Ahead

All this week I have been showing the Prayer Flags that my Serge Ahead Art Quilt group have made.
There are some real beauties and I'd love it if you took a look.

You can see them here, here, here, here and here!

Have a lovely weekend.

working at this and working at that wednesday...

Can I just begin by saying a huge THANK YOU to everyone who left such lovely and encouraging comments on my last post.
I am going to be exploring these landscapes further but I am also busy trying to finish things off and I am still playing with my new embellisher (it is still feeling new even though I have had it a few months now)

Here is a blurry peek of something that I have been working on but can't share yet because it's a gift  for someone.

This will be a book cover. It is made out of lots of bits, all embellished together with minimal stitching, using up bits of a worn out cushion cover that comes from a very well known store.

Do you recognise where it has come from?

Being Courageous!

For most of this month I have been taking Stephanie Levy's Creative Courage e-course.

It has been a good way to begin the year and has helped me to set my goals and get my priorities in place.

One thing it has helped me with is creating what I want to create rather than what I think I ought to create.

These are the results so far.

Note to self...

When you start a series of new work, think about how you are going to display the pieces so that they lay flat when hung.

Think about the wisdom of making long thin pieces, for the same reason as given above.

Decide on a uniform way of depicting the birds: soft and dreamy or strong and precise, not both.

Know that there are different shades of grey, and that you have enough of the one you begin with, to finish all. Plus choose the quick and easy computerised stitch that you have used in the past and not the free motion stitch that takes an age to complete, resulting in boredom, resulting in not finishing!

Perhaps if I had thought about these things back in October when I began these, they would have been finished a lot sooner!
Not to worry, a lot was learnt and fun was had!

working wednesday

This has been painted and embellished and is now ready for stitching.

This top has been done using up the scraps from the Bunting Quilt. It needs to be basted and quilted.

I have been very organised and done the binding already. I find if I don't do this it this way it is harder to go back to the fabric to put it together after quilting. Don't ask me why. This is just something I have learnt about myself! When do you do it? Before or after quilting?

I have posted a quite detailed explanation about the Bunting Quilt, along with a link to download a pattern for the block here.

Must get on!
Happy Sewing!
