The "F" Quilt

embroidered quilt

I would say that my skills don't lay in piecing, or hand embroidery but when the friend who made me this says that this is what we need to do to create a quilt for one of our group who has a special birthday coming up you don't say no :D

I was a goody two shoes and got my section (one quarter) done before Christmas before passing it on to the others to complete their section and put it all together.

Last week it was time to pass it on to the birthday girl.

It is not the best photo. To be honest we were all a bit giddy with excitement waiting to see the finished article and more importantly to see the reaction of the recipient. Many of the photos I took were blurred and the light in the pub where we met wasn't great, but hopefully that will not detract from you seeing just how fantastic this is.

Each of the four pieces have been melded into one amazing piece, with it being difficult to know where one persons work begins and another one ends.

We all contributed bits of the fabric, so there are some of my hand painted in there along with batiks and also some recycled fabric from some clothing belonging to the birthday girl's grandmother, which I think is a lovely touch.

Why the "F" quilt?

It was made by Friends for a Fortieth birthday and it is Fabulous!
Any suggestion that it became known as anything else while it was being painstakingly and meticulously stitched put together are simply not true!!!   :D

Every section deserved a photograph!
I can report that it was very well received and there might have also been a few tears.

  1. That is a gorgeous quilt and love all the appliques and stitcheries that each person did.
What a wonderful gift that she will treasure. I wish my embroidery skills were better, I need to finish one that needs embellishments.

  7. Breathtakingly stunning! Congrats to all the contributors, and yo the birthday girl! It really doesn't look as if it was made in four sections and the embroidery was a great idea! I'm teaching crazy patchwork next week, I'll show this as inspiration if that's ok!!!
