Recycling

I have been working on some items for some classes to be given at the Community College where I teach. The idea is to recycle fabric and create something new. I have used upholstery fabrics that I had lying around the house. Adding chocolate wrappers and voile I used the pattern on the fabric to create the stitching on this container, as shown in the detail below.

I followed the same principle for the second container, adding more sweet wrappers.
The gold circles are the leftover foils from my childrens christmas chocolate coins.

I free-machined over the voile this time.

I have also done a table runner using old curtains and and old silk shirt. I have discovered that table runners are very hard to photograph well, but hopefully you get the idea.

I am constantly enthralled how by adding a layer of voile to a piece allows it to take on a new life.

  2. These pieces are all wonderful Deb!! I am very partial to the red one but that is because I just love red!! You have inspired me to make us of all of the chocolate wrappers that I have been saving. The other day I even bought a very small bag of dark Chocolate Hersheys kisses because the foil wrapper was sucha glorious deep purple!!!

  3. The vessels are FABulous!! The shapes, the colours, the treatments, the feel---enviably beautiful.
The runner reminds me of Morrocan architecture for some reason---just gorgeous.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. I do try to respond to each one but
if you do not hear from me it is probably because you are a "no reply blogger".
